Memories from Long Island
28
Oct
This year our trip to the USA was very spontaneous. One day we’ve decided that we go, and a week later Andrew welcomed us at the JFK airport.
Though we had an unplesent experience at the airport, as Szymon already has informed You, those three weeks that we spent at the Grabowski’s house was a wonderful time.
We traveled with Ania and Bożena along the Long Island, discovering many beautiful places, meeting new people and experiencing new sensations.
During our trips we came across on garagesales with countless amount of strange items that people keep in their homes. We found there souvenirs from World War II, and even family photos from the eighteenth century. We were also pleased to visit one of the farms with pigs, goats and cows where home made dairy products and delicious pumpkin pies have delighted our palates.
We found on Shelter Island hidden landscaped park called Mashomack with a beautiful nature, wildlife and little squirrels running around the feet.
We have been to New York Botanical Garden, where to this day grows 40 acres of forest which is untouched since before the time of the first European colonization of these lands. In New York we also have visited James Farley Post Office and the Museum of Postal History which is located inside the building.
We also visited Hoboken in New Jersey, where is located Carlo’s Bake Shop – the famous pastry shop, which has its own reality show on the TLC channel called “Cake Boss”.
It was a great and wonderful time full of laughter, fun and sunshines.
See you next year NY!
Coco and mom together in the USA

Sep
Yesterday Coco (Magda) together with our mom flew to New York to visit our family and friends. Today they told me that the flight was quite good but what happened after the flight suprised everyone, and it wasn’t a plesant surprise ;>
Let me start with the fact that our mom got a green card this year so she was obliged to deliver all needed documents to the customs. And that was the moment when our pair were splitted and Coco left alone in a huge arrivals hall waiting to the passport control without any cell phone while mom gone to the customs office to do all the paperwork. It took her about an hour to go through all those procedures so she thought that her 23-year-old daughter is already waiting for her outside the airport. Nothing more wrong. As it turned out, in the meantime, when Coco was waiting for her turn to the passport control two other planes from France arrived. Don’t know why the customs started to check passports of french passengers first although they arrived much more later than the plane of polish airlines so it made a big confusion. When mom heard from the speakers that she will have to wait for Coco from 2 to 3 hours she decided to take matters into her own hands. She found some airport worker who spoke polish and told him the whole story.
I forgot to mention that whole this time our close friend Jędrek was waiting for the girls. Jędrek is a husband of Bożena – our mom’s best friend. Coco and mom will stay at their place for the next 2 weeks.
But let’s get back to the airport. Coco asked one of the polish passangers standing next to her if she could send a text message from his mobile to her mother who is definitely worried and wondering what is going on. Of course he agreed. When our mom got a message she ran with the polish officer ASAP in the direction to the passport control hall. Unfortunately the whole place was so crowded that they couldn’t see Coco. Mom sent a text to the number from which she recived a latest message from Coco and told her to wave her arms in the air like a crazy person. She did what mother told her and then polish officer spotted her and took her out from the crowd. Coco as a VIP went through a separate entrance to the passport control.
So after 4 outrageous hours full of stress, girls were sitting comfortable in Jędrek’s car and were on the way to Long Island…
